The Reclaiming African History project seeks to support young people in the UK and Kenya to learn about research, archaeology and museum work as a potential career path. We are partnering with University College London and Maseno University in Kisumu, Kenya.
This programme is also a part of Ode to the Ancestors, a Horniman project that commemorates and celebrates the African Kenyan archaeologists whose names are absent from archaeological archives.
We are welcoming young people of African and/or Caribbean heritage, between the ages of 16-25, and who are not in Higher Education, who would be interested in attending some training sessions on archaeology historical research and museum work.
You will also receive mentorship on conducting your own research project, and help us develop some resources to help future researchers, with the potential of contributing to a dedicated exhibition later in the year.
If you are interested, please join us online for a taster session on Saturday 18 June at 12 noon – 1.30pm. In this session we will tell you about the programme, answer questions and let you know how to apply. Sign up by emailing youth@horniman.ac.uk
Successful applicants will receive £50 for their time.
Please apply by midday on Thursday 9 June.
The Reclaiming African History project is funded through UCL’s Knowledge Exchange and Innovation funding initiative.
