At the London in Bloom awards this month, the Horniman Gardens was very proud to be recognised as a fantastic outdoor resource.
For the second year running, our wonderful Gardens won Gold and Best in Category for the Heritage Parks and Gardens award, meaning we were deemed ‘outstanding’ and scored higher than 85% in the judging criteria.
We also scooped up a Silver Gilt in the Environmental Challenge category, which marks outdoor spaces on their efforts to respond to the challenges presented by the climate and ecological emergency.
The 16.5 acre Horniman Gardens scored a whopping 191 out of 200 available points, marked across criteria that included consideration of planting to reflect the natural landscape and history of the site, recycling and use of grown product, volunteer engagement and horticulture maintenance.
We’re very proud of our achievements and are wishing many congratulations to our wonderful Gardens Team and their brilliant volunteers.
It is clear to anyone lucky enough to visit this lovely site that lots of thought and care has gone into the planning and planting... You could tell that there is a clear program of works and a positive direction forward that only comes from the top down, so the site is in great hands and moving away from the dusty parks of old and into a water-aware eco mindset. A total joy to visit.
