What is 696 Tracks?
696 Tracks is a week-long music and Bronze Arts Award programme taking place at the Horniman Museum and Gardens.
You will work with professional musicians and production tutors to develop your sound and improve your music production skills.
We will take inspiration from the Horniman’s 696 programme, Dance Can’t Nice exhibition and music gallery as well as hearing from artists on the 696 Resident Artist programme.
Later in the week we will be joined by professionals from Warp Publishing who we will talk about the world of music publishing. We will learn how to get the best out of online platforms like Spotify, Bandcamp and Soundcloud so you can start publishing your own music yourself.
During the course you will:
- Develop your technical music production skills
- Create your own loops and recordings
- Work on your own tracks
- Earn a Bronze Arts Award qualification
- Learn how to publish your music online
- Have fun and gain confidence

Participation is free, with refreshments and travel included.
Who can apply?
Applications will be prioritised for those making music in line with the 696 programme which celebrates Black British music- from Drill to Afro-Futurist Hip-Hop, R&B to Afrobeats and Jazz to Soul.
Application is open to all people aged 14 – 25. We welcome applications from those with all levels of experience so if you are interested in participating, but not confident in your skills, this is a chance to gain experience in a supportive and fun environment. If you have already made music we’d love to hear it, but if you haven’t that is fine too.

Applications close at 10am on 16 August, and 70% of places will be prioritised for those who are not in education, training or employment.
