Terracotta satyr’s head, mould-made of pinkish clay. It is a vase attachment or fragment of a container, which was probably applied at the base of a handle (see the hollows above the ears). There is fine detail in the beard locks and in the sharp moulding of facial features. It is covered in shiny black paint. There is the indication of ivy on the bald head. The rear has hollows (possibly finger impressions) and is unpainted. There is a sketch of the head on the review card.
There is a label stuck to the back of the head, which says, 'Satyr's Head / Greek / 5th. c. B.C.'.
