Small-necked lekythos, oil flask. Athenian, with the neck looking proportionately long compared with the body. It has a low bell mouth, and single ribbon handle. It has a sharply articulated shoulder, squat body, and disc foot, which is slightly hollowed. There is black figure decoration on the body of three elaborate palmettes resting on a chain motif base. The petals are defined by incision. There are black bands below the palmettes. The handle is painted black, and the shoulder of the vessel has a dot and leaf motif. The mouth is painted black.
Lekythoi often served as offerings to the dead, placed on tombs or on the steps of grave stelae and used to anoint funerary monuments, especially by female mourners
