The design of the spear thrower allows spears to be thrown further than by hand and with more accuracy.

The spear thrower would be used to give greater velocity to the thrown spear as it acts as an extra joint in the thrower's arm. The spear lies along the spear thrower, and the added velocity will allow the spear to travel further.
