Carved bamboo brushpot in cylindrical form with recessed base, which is the diaphragm of bamboo. The exterior is deeply carved with two scenes of literary gathering. The upper scene depicts five elder gentlemen in a bamboo grove cultivating themselves in literati activities such as playing chess and commenting on calligraphy or painting. The lower scene depicts four elder gentlemen playing chess under pine trees with one man sitting inside a pavilion.
