Collection of fifty plaster medallions arranged within a case The medallions vary in size but each one is encased within a yellow surround. On the surface of each medal is a scene representing a character or story from classical or Egyptian mythology. The case, which is hinged at the front, resembles a book and has been bound in red leather. On the spine, the words 'Dolce Gemme Antiche Tav. I' have been worked in gold. On the inside of the cover is a printed index which lists, in Italian, the name or scene depicted on each medal along with a corresponding number. A number of handwritten annotations have been added to the index in ink.
