dress

Brown taffeta woman's day dress with long sleeves, largely undecorated except for the smocking at the top of the sleeves.

I would date the dress to about 1860, or perhaps a couple of years later. It’s a day dress, because it’s got long sleeves and is undecorated except for the smocking at the top of the sleeves. It looks like a nice example and in good condition, from the photographs. Jenny Lister, Victoria and Albert Museum. July 7th 2014.
