Carved wooden figure of Laozi, the first Daoist sage and credited as the author of Daodejing, the classic Daoist philosophical text. He rides on a water buffalo, which has black lacquer-painted eyes and a brass nose ring. Laozi is depicted with a bald head, a long beard and wearing a long robe. His left hand holds a plum, the right hand is broken.
