Animal figurine in coarse red terracotta with three legs missing. The rather bland pointed muzzle and the large, fan-like projection from the neck and shoulders of this animal suggest that this animal is a horse. There are no eyes and the ears are damaged. This object is clearly a child's toy and if indeed a horse, may once have had a rider originally too.

An animal figurine in coarse red terracotta with three legs missing. The rather bland pointed muzzle and the large, fan-like projection from the neck and shoulders of this animal (its mane, see also nn17497) suggests that this animal is indeed a horse. There are no eyes and the ears are damaged. This object is clearly a child's toy and if indeed a horse, may once have had a rider originally too (see nn3707.1 for a rider model ). Marked on the surviving leg in black ink with 'SB' (probably Sari Bahlol, Mardan District, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Early Historic Period, probably early centuries. Archaeological context: presumably unstratified and from a surface collection. Given by Col. D H Gordon (1952/3).
