TENGU

Carved and painted wooden mask of a male goblin or demon with long pointed nose. Painted red for the most part. Two small fangs in upper jaw. Long strands of horsehair from holes to wither side of upper lip, also from holes in chin, to represent beard. Bushy eyebrows indicated by fuzzy horsehair through holes above eyes. Two furrows in either side of forehead. Small apertures in eyes and nostrils. Ears represented by carving. Hair on top of head indicated in greyish paint as are fangs. Eyes have greenish area (perhaps once gold) and blue paint (under dirt). Holes at both sides in ears for cords (missing). '5/6' written in crayon(?) on inside of mask. Some chips in paint.
