Rice planter's hat. Inner layer of plaited split bamboo with three vertical bands ornamented in black. Outer layer of finer plaited strips from the outside of the bamboo. Patterning in three sections divided by double bands in red running from peak of crown to rim. Each section consists of a triangular part with a border to either side. The triangular parts consist of zigzags in white against black with goose-eye motifs. There are no ribs. Top section of hat is natural colour, divided by six vertical stripes in red. The brim is of two hoops of split bamboo bound with single stitches, above this a narrower hoop of rattan on the outside of the hat, a slightly larger one below, wrapped in bamboo strips. The crown, which originally would have risen to a point, is damaged.
