double pocket; purse (clothing: accessories); textile

An embroidered silk double pocket or purse, da lian, for carrying money. At the top is a yellow satin flap with a cream one below it. Both are also containers. The top flap is embroidered with seven Chinese characters worked in dark blue silk. The bottom flap has a purple blossomed plant and an winged insect embroidered onto the cream ground, some in pine needle embroidery. Both are edged with an identical green and cream hand made braid and two strands of couched gold-coloured metal-wrapped thread. The linings of the flaps and the inside of the purse are made from red tabby woven cloth. The remainder is made from dark blue satin. A vertical opening allows access to the purse. [Textile]
