Pipe with a large, flattened burr wood bowl, curved so that the pipe and stem run parallel. The bowl is topped with a white metal rim and a hinged decorative cap. The connection to the stem is also finished in white metal. Through this is a metal link, to which is tied a length of green twine, the other end of which is tied to the pipe stem near the mouthpiece. From this hang two acorns, made from wood and covered with green silk thread. There are the remains of green silk thread along the length of the twine, the rest of which appears to have worn away.
The pipe stem is made in several sections of horn, white metal and wood. The first section which attaches to the bowl is made from dark horn and carved with spirals. This looks as though it was once stuck to the bowl, but has since come detached. The second section is made from a sheet of white metal, formed into an 8 faceted pipe, the seam of which is splitting at the back. The front of this is decorated with a small lions head. There is a hole through his mouth as though a loop was once fitted here. This is followed by another section of spiraled dark horn, which is bent at a 45 degree angle at the top, to aim the mouthpiece towards the user. The centre of this section of horn is wrapped with finely plaited material, possibly plant fibre. The mouth piece itself is made from a small flattened section of blonde horn.
There is an old display label with the object. Printed in black on white, now yellowed paper it reads " WOOD PIPE Mounted with German Silver. 203. Bavarian. L. 10 in
