Rare detached blade from a sidearm for a Grenadier Company officer. The blade is of flattened diamond section, and is etched with the motto 'NEC ASPERA TERRENT' ['Difficulties be Damned']. It is further etched with a grenade and small military trophies. The forte is thickened, and etched with the pre-1801 British Royal Arms. The tang of the blade has subsequently been covered with cloth and bound with a narrow strip of leather. The blade was probably manufactured and etched in Solingen, Germany.
