Scroll painting, kakemono, depicting a figure, Bakui Kannon or the White-robed Avalokitesvara, with a seated image of Amida in the headdress, unusually riding a lotus petal in the style of Bodhidharma crossing the Yangtze on a reed. He or she is wearing a crown and a robe with two ornamental chains hanging from the waist and a necklace. His or her aura in the background. Inscription and seal bottom left. Painting on cloth is framed by panels of brocade, with gold thread brocade strip at the top and bottom of the picture. Wooden bar for hanging the scroll at the top, from which two straps hang. Cord attached to two rings above the bar. Cylindrical bar below scroll for winding it up and for weight.
Inscription reads: 東叡画史緱山法眼源正禎薫沐手写 (Toei painter Kozan Hogen Minamoto Masasada purified myself and painted [this]), Seal「楽？」(the second character is illegible) The painter is Nonoyama Kozan (野々山緱山 1780-1848), also known as 正禎, 子祥 (Shisho), 楽々居士 (Rakuraku-koji). He was a Kano School painter ranked Hogen (法眼, the second highest rank for painters).
