pipe (narcotics & intoxicants: smoking)

Pipe, Tophane ware, with a bowl made of clay, with a thin band of copper alloy around the rim and a wider, crown-shaped band of copper alloy around the base. The stem is made of wood and covered with velvet, with copper alloy panels around either end that are decorated and painted with floral motifs. The mouthpiece is made of yellow glass. A thin metal chain spirals around the length of stem and attaches to the bowl. The stamp on it, althoughn in Arabic script, appears read 'Luka', which might would suggest that its maker was a Greek or Italian working in Istanbul.
