commemorative coin

One of a collection of 136 commemorative coins from Great Britain. Commemorative medal, obverse depicting two men shaking hands, the one on the left in European early 19th century dress, the one on the right dressed only in a cloak, probably representing an African. In the background to the left is a row of thatched huts, to the right a row of human figures. Between the two central figures are two small figures apparently working the soil. The top edge of the coin carries the inscription 'WE ARE ALL BRETHREN'. A horizontal section below the picture contains the inscription 'SLAVE TRADE ABOLISHED BY GREAT BRITAIN 1807'. Reverse is covered with an Arabic inscription, not yet deciphered. 35mm diameter.
