snuff box

A snuff box made from a short, dark, curved horn. The base is plugged with a circle of dark wood and has a decorative carved pommel in the centre. This is secured with wooden pins which pass through the edge of the horn and has been further secured with a gum-like substance. The top of the horn has a hole in the centre and has been carved into a spout shape. Beneath the spout, a length of fine twine has been wrapped around the horn many times. There is an old Purnell collectors label stuck to the object. Much of this has been ripped away, but 'H GA[Y?]' can be seen.
