pipe (narcotics & intoxicants: smoking)

Schemnitz type pipe bowl made from stoneware that is a mottled brown and black colour. The front of the tall, cylindrical bowl is an oval border with a raised image of buildings and an inscription. At the top of the bowl is a copper alloy band with a hinged, shallow, octagonal shaped lid with an incised image of a building and inscription; from the lid is a decorated latch to hold the lid closed. The stem connection is short with maker's marks on either side and a decorative, copper alloy covering on the end with a loop.
