A dark brown and black stone pipe bowl graduating towards the top to form a large rim and a shank at 45 degrees from the bowl. There is a small round white label stuck to the bottom of the shank, on which is written " A. h 18.
There is part of an old display with the object. Printed in black on white, now yellowed paper it reads "[missing ] E BOWL. [missing] with screw cover. German. [missing ] d., 2 1/2 in. (Bragge Collection)." Then handwritten in black ink "A.H 18."
There was an old wire display mount attached to the object. This has now been removed by conservation but has been kept with the object in case it holds any clues as to its identity.
