Passport, huzhao, printed on a large rectangular piece of paper with Chinese inscriptions in black in columns, and with English script written in appropriate places in purple pencil. Two large printed Chinese characters, reading 'huzhao', or 'passport', are circled in red ink on top. Two consular service paper stamps, to a total value of $3.50, are pasted above with a red circular chop stamped over. There are two large rectangular red official seals at the lower left. This passport was issued in Wuzhou (Wu Chow on document) to Mr McCarthy on 8 June 1900, and was valid for one year. It allowed the passport holder to travel from Wuzhou city to Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan provinces.
