The base for a box, circular in shape. The base has a wider rim at the bottom, which has small discs of ivory attached. Along the rim, metal thread has also been embedded into the surface to create decoration. The central section of the base is elevated and divided into seven circular sections. There is a hole through the middle of the central compartment. The surface of the object has been lacquered in black, red, blue and yellow, and has a floral decoration. There are also more abstract designs. Apart from the central compartment, each section has a large ivory disk embedded in the centre. The disks are carved and elaborated. The underside of the base has bands of decoration. The widest band is lacquered in orange and has metal thread embedded into the surface. There are also four more bands, in blue and black lacquer. There is a small chip in the rim of the base. Some of the ivory disks are either broken or have fallen off completely.
