hanging (ritual & belief: representations); textile

Large rectangular hanging decorated with a painted centre panel and a border in black, blue, brown, red and yellow. The textile has been sewn together from 2 pieces the selvedges. The panel consists of a central rectangular image consisting of a seated central figure in blue. This is framed by a red and a cream figure on either side, and a 3-domed canopy above. The rectangle is surrounded by a wider chevron border framed by narrow scrolled borders. This is surrounded by 8 bands consisting of smaller rectangular areas containing pictorial imagery. The 8 bands are separated by smaller bands containing writing. The overall wider border containing circular patterns is again framed by the narrower scrolled borders. The overall edge has been coloured in brown.
