Sword and sheath from the Lepcha of Sikkim, India. The single-edged, short sword has a blunt point, brass collar and wooden hilt bound with metal wire. The wooden scabbard is open on one side with a cut out and inset for the blade, which would be held in pace by two silver bands mounted with turquoise. The chape of the scabbard is decorated with openwork of silver mounted with turquoise. There are two split hide thongs attached behind.
