According to Edward Hart, writing on 7 April 1927, 'Left (no.1): adult male, summer plumage, June 1887; right (no.2): adult female, summer plumage, June 1887; nest and five eggs. Shot by me at White Pitts, Christchurch. Sexes differ. Summer and winter plumage differ. Mounted by me'.
