Taxidermy case of five adult male and six adult female Grey Phalarope (one bird missing). According to Edward Hart, writing on 25 January 1927, '(No 1): adult female, winter plumage; (no 2): adult female, winter plumage; (no 3): adult female, winter plumage; (no 4): adult male, winter plumage; (no 5): adult female, winter plumage; (no 6): adult male, winter plumage; (no 7): adult male, winter plumage; (no 8): adult female, winter plumage; (no 9): adult female, winter plumage; (no 10): adult male, winter plumage; (no 11): adult male, winter plumage. All of the above shot by me on the flooded meadows around Christchurch 1865, 1866, 1870, 1872, 1875, 1886 and 1891, and in this last year were especially numerous. Sexes alike, but older birds are rather clearer in plumage than younger ones, and the females are slightly larger than the males. Summer and winter plumage differ. Mounted by me' .
