According to Edward Hart, writing on 1 May 1927, 'Left (no 1): adult female, August 2nd 1873; (no 2): adult male, September 7th 1878; (no 3): adult male, September 6th 1883; (no 4): adult female, October 6th 1879; (no 5): adult female, October 9th 1880; (no 6): adult male, January 28th 1914, winter plumage. Shot by me on the Town Common, Christchurch. Sexes alike. Summer and winter plumage differ. Mounted by me'.
