According to Edward Hart, writing on 29 April 1927, 'Left (no 1): adult male, May 14th 1879, summer plumage; bottom right (no 2): adult female, August 9th 1883, summer plumage; top right (no 3): adult female, September 16th 1881, summer plumage. Shot by me on the Salterns, Christchurch Harbour. Sexes alike. Summer and winter plumage differ. Mounted by me'.
