Descant recorder made from 'Dolonite', a type of Bakelite. In three sections: head joint, main joint and foot joint. The recorder has two double holes for the lowest notes, enabling accidentals to be played more easily.

This is the first plastic descant recorder made by Arnold Dolmetsch Ltd, designed by Dr Carl Dolmetsch in 1946. The Edmonton firm Insulators Ltd made the tools to produce it. Dolmetsch recorders were later mass produced by Boosey & Hawkes. This recorder was donated by Dr Dolmetsch on the occasion of a concert given by the Dolmetsch family at the Horniman Museum in 1987.
