Santur, dulcimer or box zither. The instrument is of the usual trapezoid shape. 18 quadruple courses of wire strings in alternate courses of brass and steel are stretched between lance-shaped wrest-pins set into the right-hand wall and plain hitch-pins set into that on the left. Each course has a separate capstan-shaped bridge with a metal comb. These are arranged alternately on the left and right of the sound-board. The walls and the edges of the sound-board are decorated with arabesques executed in tiny tesserae and outlined with strips of ivory. The sound-board is pierced by two flower-shaped sound-holes decorated with painted designs. The wall on the right has split at the level of the lowest row of wrest-pins.
