Violin converted from a viol, with hand-written parchment label 'George Gill' (probably not original). The two-piece back inlaid with decorative purfling. Table with point d'aguille work in a design of scrolling foliage. Dark wood. Ebony fingerboard (tail-piece missing). Fish-tail sound holes; flat back slopes at shoulders towards neck. Narrow neck substituted at time of conversion from viol to 4 string violin.
