321.321-71 Necked bowl lutes sounded by bowing with a bow

Tenor violin. The back and ribs are of maple, the belly of pine. The pegs are of box with ebony roundels. The back is two-piece, of medium curl descending slightly from the joint, the head of narrower more pronounced curl. The varnish is a golden-brown colour. The pine belly is pierced by two blunt f-shaped soundholes. Length of back 21 one sixteenth inches.

Intermediate in size and range between a viola and a cello, the tenor violin is an instrument now obsolete.
