Shepherd's walking stick flute.
This flute was donated with a collection of artefacts by the Romanian Peoples' Republic Museum of Peasant Art in 1957. The Museum's documentation transferred to the Horniman with the instrument states that 'In the Moţi zone of the Western Mountains, entire villages have become specialised in the art of flute making'. The flute's maker, Ion Jurcǎ, used a small knife and a red-hot poker to fashion the flute in the course of one day at his home.
