423.122.2 Side-blown curved labrosones

One of a pair of 'tori', side-blown metal horns, with jingling metal pellet bells. Made of bell metal (a mixture of copper and tin, recycled from other metal objects [see Living Arts of India catalogue p.29]), using the 'dhokra' (lost wax) process. A pair with M1a-1985.

This horn was made by Ghadwa craftsmen of the Bastar District in Madhya Pradesh. It was cast from recycled metal using the ‘lost wax’ process, a technique for casting bronze that has been used in India for thousands of years.
