hat

White sheep wool felt campesino hat with black band.

Worn by a Bolivian campesino, a farmer, also by dancers in the Oruro carnival festivals. Carnival celebrations in Oruro are a combination of indigenous Andean and Catholic traditions. In the 17th century the Spanish banned indigenious itu ceremonies but the Uru people kept observing them, concealing portrayals of the Andean Gods and Christian icons.
