geta

Right shoe of a pair of Geta shoes with blue strap.

Geta are traditionally raised and thonged footwear worn by the Japanese. This style of geta is called a 'senryou' geta, which have a wedge shaped front block (called a ha) rather than a rectangular one. Senryou geta were especially popular from 1904-1905 during the Russo-Japanese war. Geta would be worn by both men and women and while they were traditionally worn by everyone from the emperor to ordinary workers, they are now typically only worn with traditional Japanese clothing.
