This mask, called Bondres Bues, is used during ‘Topeng’ dance dramas to tell stories about people and life in the past and compare them to present day people and life. He is a drunken clown character who talks amusing nonsense. The Bondres Bues character is part of the Topeng Pajegan. Pajegan , one person playing many characters, so basically it refers to a one-man show where the dancer/actor gets to show off all his skills and versatility. The people of Bali have many festivals and ceremonies that are dedicated to different special days in the Balinese calendar. Dance and mask drama is very important part of these traditions. It is a reflection of people’s relationship with God and the world around them.
