Papers and correspondence relating Eric McGavin’s work as Education Advisor at Boosey & Hawkes, his stewardship of the National Youth Wind Orchestra (which he founded) and papers relating to local performances and music clubs with which McGavin was involved including the Abbots Langley Gilbert & Sullivan Society. The series also contains notes and articles written by McGavin on the subject of music education with advice for music teachers in primary and secondary schools.
During the initial curation and appraisal of the collection the original curator, Bradley Strauchen, made a series of oral recordings providing contextual information on many items within the collection. Transcripts of her recordings have been added to the relevant file and item level descriptions in the scope and content fields.
