The ownership of this object was transferred to Nigeria’s National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM) in November 2022.
A ceremonial sword. Benin City. The sword has a handle made of brass. The blade has a plaited design, but is missing below the first 20mm. The hilt of the sword has a double sided depiction of a member of the Bini Royal Court, holding a ceremonial sword, and is decorated by concentric bands beneath it.
