box; lid

Covered box made of bamboo, in cylindrical form with waisted foot and a deep recessed base, which is the diaphragm of bamboo. The exterior of the box is decorated with three landscape scenes with figures. The body and side of the lid are carved in high relief, with eight warriors in a battle scene on the body. Four warriors, two carrying shields alternating with two carrying banners, on side of the lid. Top surface of the lid is carved in shallow relief depicting the meeting of two scholars in a landscape scene with pavilions, attended by two young attendants fanning their masters, encircled by a band of carved ciruclar motifs and a band of carved petals. Edge of the lid and mouth of the box are both decorated with a band of circular motifs carved in low relief.
