belt (waist ornament)

Waist belt made from many bands of pandanus leaf bound together by three pieces of fibre tied around them. The outside of the waist section has been decorated with narrow vertical stripes of brown pigment. At the point where the leaves overlap, two bundles of thin strips of pandanus leaf are attached. These bundles are tied together with a length of fibre coiled around at one end forming a stem, which is then fed through a group of fibres tied around the belt.
