Married gentleman's black woven hat. A small delicate circular black hat in the shape of a top hat with a wide round brim. The body of the hat is woven from horse hair, with a reinforcement of woven bamboo at the crown. The brim is woven from fine bamboo and backed with silk threads. The outer and inner edge of the brim, as well as the band and edge of the crown, are supported by circles of thin lacquered bamboo, secured with thread to the woven horse hair. The hat has been coated in glue, black ink and lacquer. Two ribbons made of an open weave cotton fabric are attached to the inside of the band, using small ties of green silk thread. A decorative symbol on lacquer paper can be seen centrally on the inside of the crown.
