Shield made of hide that has been depilated all over, apart from one patch near the centre of the shield. It has been painted black with red fern-type designs all over, with a frieze of white and light brown; also a central disc in the same colours plus bright red. Outside this disc stand four brass studs with red cloth backing which in addition to being decoration, serve to hold the handles of the back on, the handles are of felt. The whole back is painted in red with frieze of gold.
