Single blade metal knife, pointed with slightly rounded blade near the tip, hollowed along the centre for most of its length on both sides. The blade has an X with a line above and below incised into the blade back at two places. The hilt is bound by a narrow metal strip, wrapped around and pinned together, where the blade is hafted in. Straight cylindrical wooden hilt, slightly fluted at end, lacquered black, overlaid with a red lacquered band above the band, and over the top of the hilt end.
Long rectangular sheath, made of two pieces of wood, bound in seven places at regular intervals with cane strips to leave a triangular-section shaped sheath, the whole lacquered in red and black bands between each binding. A cord loop bound on near the top, with a length frayed to provide a hanging sheath. Brown card label attached – tied on the cord loop: With printed words: `LONDON COUNTY COUNCIL’ Handwritten words:`CHIN KNIFE (DAH) MRS LANDON 6/1/50’.
