Folding album (parabaik) with colourful illustrations and illuminated with gold leaf. It has ten openings, showing historical scenes of the expulsion of King Thibaw from Mandalay in 1885. Folio 1-4: ‘Entertainment’ (the King can be seen in the pavilion). Folio 5-8: Generals paying their respects to the king (perhaps informing him of the arrival of the British). Folio 9-12: The King and Queen, going to the ‘forest’. Folio 13-16: (British and Indian soldiers) in the palace with the governors (the King is in the pavilion) Folio 17 – 20: The King (Thibaw although he is not mentioned by name) ‘going to a ship’ He is depicted in a carriage pulled by two oxen, on his way to exile in India where he was sent by the British. Note the escort of British and Indian soldiers.
