mummy case

The base of a sarcophagus for an Egyptian mummy of a lady. c. 300BC. It is painted with a background of white and decorated with a simple design in yellow, red, green and black. The main image is of a Djed pillar, topped with two red arms, which hold the sun. Between the arms is the Eye of Horus. This area is cracked in several places and the paint is very faded.
There are yellow and black striped snakes running along the edges at the bottom. The paint is very worn at the feet and much has cracked away at the edges.
On the inside, the base is painted beige and the edges white.
