Painted plaster model of a wall of the Sala de Lindaraja, at the Alhambra Palace, Granade. The model dates to the nineteenth-century and was made by the restorer of the Alhambra Palace, Don Rafael Contreras. The words 'R. Contreras' are inscribed in the lower right corner of the model. The model depicts a wall of the Palace with two symetrical windows in the centre. The windows are framed by a curved archway within a larger wall. The model is coloured entirely in red, blue, and purple which have been used in combination with gold gilding to vibrant effect. The surface of the model is decorated with patterns incised into the plaster. The patterns show a range of geometric knots complimented by symmetrical floral and botancial designs. The model is situated within a large wooden frame and protected by glass. There is a paper label on the reverse of the frame with text in Spanish. A translation of this reads: “Arabesque details copied from the Palace of the Alhambra. Collection of models made by the restorer of the Palace, Don Rafael Contreras. With geometric reductions.”

May have been purchased at the Alhambra Palace in 1884, when FJH signed the visitors' book there.
