fan (personal protection)

Tortoiseshell fan, finely carved. Brisé fan made of tortoiseshell blades with carved openwork decoration including a monogram at the centre: 'M. R.', and oval, circular, and quatrefoil motifs with geometric patterns within.The sticks are held together with brown ribbon along the top edge. They are also conntected with a copper alloy pin in the bottom, with a small ring of mother of pearl on either side of the pin.
